Imaging Awards
Each year, the Notre Dame Integrated Imaging Facility (NDIIF) recognizes and honors its users through the presentation of its annual Imaging Awards.
The author nominated to win will be presented with a certificate and also receive a small honorarium.
Best Electron Microscopy Publication Imaging Award
Criteria
The award will be judged on the basis of a piece of original research in the physical and material sciences involving electron microscopy. The selection of the winner will take into account the impact level of the journal, the cutting-edge discovery of the research conducted, and all levels of innovation and sophistication required to obtain the image. Collaboration across disciplines is encouraged but not required for the submission. Consideration is given to publications whose work utilized multiple facets of the NDIIF.
Eligibility

Image must have been taken on a piece of NDIIF equipment.

Image must have been published in a peer-reviewed journal during the calendar year 2020.

Image must have been taken by a University of Notre Dame faculty member or student who is a co-author of the relevant publication.

Best Biological Publication Imaging Award
Criteria
The award will be judged on the basis of a piece of original research with biological applications highlighting optical microscopy or InVivo imaging. Selection of the winner will take into account the impact level of the journal, the cutting-edge discovery of the research conducted, and all levels of innovation and sophistication required to obtain the image. Collaboration across disciplines is encouraged but not required for the submission. Consideration is given to publications whose work utilized multiple facets of the NDIIF.

Best Artistic Image
Criteria
The NDIIF appreciates that some images are beautiful but are not relevant for a research publication. Therefore, applications are invited for "Best Artistic Image," which recognizes NDIIF users for their ability to create art through the use of the facility's scientific equipment. Please note that this image does not require past publication in a research journal.
Eligibility

Image must have been taken on a piece of NDIIF equipment.

Image must have been taken during the calendar year 2020.

Image must have been taken by a University of Notre Dame faculty member or student.

Important Notes:

Awardees will be chosen by a Committee as appointed by the NDIIF Director.

Current NDIIF staff and steering committee members are eligible to apply.

People may apply for more than one award or be listed on multiple applications.

One representative of each winning publication will be required to present a short lecture on their research at the Fall Annual NDIIF Town Hall Meeting to be held in August, 2021. More details to follow upon receipt of the award.
